Closets across Edmonton rejoiced with the opening of Ginger Apparel on 124th Street. The boutique was chic, modern, and stocked with most coveted brands. In April, Edmonton's fashionable crowd sighed with defeat when Ginger closed its doors forever.
The final weekend for Ginger featured sales up to 50-70% off. Unlike most gleeful shopping sales, this one felt depressing – another great store gone. Although the owner is stepping away to raise her children, it's been a slow, steady demise for Ginger. Originally carrying both men and women clothing it withered down to only women. Stock levels were kept at a minimum. The website was never quite finished. LUX Beauty Boutique moved in to pay some rent. And now, Ginger's doors are closing, and LUX is moving a block west.
As Edmontonians we crave boutique shopping, but do we fail to support the boutiques?
Thank you to Ginger - my wardrobe thanks you.
