Opera frightens us. Or it did until we met Mercury Opera.
Instead of performing in a drafty old theatre with stiff uncomfortable seats, Mercury Opera takes us underground. Mercury Opera is creating an operascape beneath the glamourous 104th street transforming the LRT station platform into a stage.
The singers accompanied by an Edmonton-based string quartet will sing some of opera’s greatest hits. And, fashion gets a big moment as costumes are designed by the creative local fashion designer Natasha Lazarovic of Temnafialka.com.
And YOU (the audience), you get to wear your favourite jeans and enjoy a pre-performance party. Starting at 6pm, the shops of 104th Street (Devine Wine and Spirits, Eyecare Group, Armstrong 29 and Coup Garment Boutique) are hosting a reception complete with wine, beer and local fare.
This night at the Opera is anything but scary.
