Alberta and hockey go hand-in-hand, but never has that sentiment held more weight than in the community of Sherwood Park. Folks out here love their hockey and they have a particular fondness for the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
The Cru, as they’re known in Sherwood Park, is an AJHL (Alberta Junior Hockey League) “Junior A” hockey club that has been around since 1976, making it the second oldest hockey organization in Alberta. The team is a consistent presence in division championships each season, has won five North Division Championships, and has served as a launching pad for many NHL players, including Brad Berry and Mike Comrie.
These kids play fast, skilled hockey, with a competitiveness and intensity that will leave you breathless. A Cru game is always a lot of fun and the quality of hockey is so strong that you will practically forget that these players are almost all under the age of 19.
With the 2011 calendar year wrapping up, the team will play one more pre-Christmas game at home hosting the Brooks Bandits on Sunday, December 18. If you’re interested in tickets, visit the team website.
