Silver Skate Festival
What: Edmonton’s longest running winter festival.
Why: An epic ice slide, family snow sculpting, figure skating demonstrations, dog sledding demonstrations, horse drawn sleigh rides two fanciful nights of fire sculptures entitled ‘Art Burn’ and ‘Fire in the Belly’.
Where: Hawrelak Park
When: Friday, February 18 – Monday, February 21. Full schedule.

Glass Half-Full
What: Sample over 200 local and international wines, port, sparkling and dessert wines.
Why: All this sipping is included in the price of your ticket! Oh, and did we mention hors d'oeuvres, including gourmet cheeses, olives, chocolates and scrumptious samples from the Shaw Conference Centre.
Where: Shaw Conference Centre. Tickets $65.

Wide-Open Family Fun
Downtown Family Day Festival
What: Free fun activities all over downtown Edmonton.
Why: Carnivals, puppet making, sno-cones, Chinese New Year or head to the library to research your genealogy or solve the perfect crime.

Big Hearts
World’s Longest Hockey Game
What: 40 players, 10 days, 1 goal - to raise $1 million for the Cross Cancer Institute
Why: Start cheering (and bring a donation!). These amazing 39 men and 1 woman need some encouragement as they play for 241 hours straight through the night, the early mornings and the snowy afternoons.
Where: Saiker's Acres southeast of Sherwood Park. Take Wye Road East of Sherwood Park. Turn south onto RR220. Travel about 1.5 km and turn east into Saiker's Acres. Follow the signs to the outdoor rink.
When: Friday, February 11 – Monday, February 21.
