If you live in Sherwood Park and possess more than a passing affection for fitness and athletics, then you not only know about Millennium Place, but you probably have a love/hate relationship with it.
The love part.
Millennium Place is easy to love. The world-class multi-function athletic facility located in northwest Sherwood Park, offers visitors the ability to swim, skate, sweat, and play all under one roof. Athletes of all ages, shapes, and sizes all take advantage of this fantastic community facility. By paying a drop-in fee or purchasing a monthly membership, you can utilize the leisure ice and arena surfaces (which host hockey, ringette, and soccer tournaments), build muscle and burn fat in the wellness centre, ride the wave pool and swim laps in the aquatic centre, watch kids climb the rock wall in the indoor park, and even host a birthday party or meeting in one of the special event rooms. There are so many possibilities at the 10-year-old Millennium Place, you can easily find yourself dizzy trying to decide which activity to “do”.
The hate part.
With more than 2.5 million visitors each year, Millennium Place is busy, really busy. On any given day, every foot of the 200,000 square foot facility can be jam-packed. The parking lot is nearly always full with cars; there are moms sweating it out in boot camp; dads lining up for drop-in hockey; teammates waiting for their next tournament game; teenagers grabbing lunch while on a school field trip to the pool; and toddlers giggling while playing tag. It’s a lot of people, a lot of the time.
As with all love/hate relationships, love wins...and here’s why: In spite of the hectic energy experienced as a result of the popularity of Millennium Place, the facility is stellar in its offering to the residents of Sherwood Park. Like no other, it delivers a great variety of activity for every age group and every fitness level. A visit will find you busy for an entire day, having fun and keeping healthy.
Spend some time at Millennium Place and you too will see why it’s a community winner.
