Cirque du Soleil
What: Cirque du Soleil brings its aerialists, acrobats, and contortionists to Edmonton.
Why: A brilliant colour feast featuring the fusion of the East (the dragon) and West (the lion), Dralion fuses the 3000 year-old tradition of Chinese acrobatics with the modern circus that is Cirque du Soleil.
Where: Rexall Place (7424 118 Avenue). Tickets $40-$100.
When: Wednesday, July 6 to Sunday, July 10.
Edmonton & Northern Alberta Historic Festival
What: Explore Edmonton’s past by learning more about the fur trade, rich farmland history, and growing communities.
Why: Discover Alberta’s oldest building, tour the celebrated buildings of downtown or take a historic transit tour.

When: Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 17
Country Cuisine: Taste of Summer!
What: A gourmet event featuring farm fresh food prepared by renowned area chefs.
Why: The menu is d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s; the wine splendid; the entertainment is delightful.
Where: St. Albert Botanic Park - 265 Sturgeon Road. Admission includes 4 TASTE! tickets. Buy tickets: $15 in advance, $20 at the door

Sounds of Old Strathcona
What: Music takes over Whyte Avenue; closing the whole street for the afternoon.
Why: Performers takin’ it to the streets this year include Gobble Gobble, Little Miss Higgins, Luke & Tess Pretty, Peter Elkas, Scenic Route To Alaska, The Dudes, The Heartbroken, The Pack a.d. and Wool On Wolves.
Where: Whyte Avenue
When: Sunday, July 10 from noon to 7pm.
What: Othello and Twelfth Night presented under the stars.
Why: Plop thy bum onto the grass to enjoy a play perfect for a midsummer’s night.
Where: Hawrelak Park. Tickets $24.50. On Tuesdays and the Saturday matinee, it’s pay-what-you-will shows.
When: Thursday, June 30 – Sunday, July 24. Every evening at 8pm (except Mondays). Full schedule.
Edmonton Street Performers
What: The final weekend of this Edmonton festival.
Why: Any festival that requires signs that say “YIELD TO LAUGHTER” must be a good time.
