Dogs love parks and we love dogs, so what a fantastic surprise to discover that Strathcona County has revitalized and reenergized its dog park off leash area!
Located directly off the Whitemud extension, just west of Highway 21, the recently completed Deermound Dog Off Leash Park is exactly what a dog park should be. Named for the former Deermound Post Office, this park offers visitors groomed pebble pathways, frequent resting benches, lots of open space, and interpretive signs positioned to provide dog owner tips. There are two enormous open fields for throwing balls and free running and an intimate, hidden, forest-style path that tricks you into thinking you’re in a National park. Ample parking and extra collection bags ensure that you are always ready to hop out of your vehicle and head straight to the field.
Strathcona County has been working on this renewal project since Spring 2010 and their hard work has paid off in spades, delivering a delightful, nature experience for dogs and owners alike. Grab a coffee and take a trip out to Deermound, it’s a guaranteed treat for you and your pup.
