Border Crossing: J.Crew, Intermix & Topshop

We’re generally not ones to name-drop, but these big name international players are worth mentioning. Welcome to the next wave of the Canadian retail invasion: J.Crew, Intermix & Topshop.

We’ve been wistfully waiting for J. Crew to open in Canada for years. And it finally happened (in Toronto  ofcourse). J.Crew opened its doors to a swarm of shoppers including fashion editors, bloggers and J.Crew lovers. The good news: The newly introduced flat-rate shipping price to Canada of USD $9.95. The bad news: The markedly higher prices for Canadian shoppers. Prices aside, we are still praying the swirling rumours of J.Crew opening in Edmonton next year at West Edmonton Mall are true.

Intermix, a US luxury retailer, opened its first Canadian store on Friday, August 26 on Bloor Street in Toronto. The intrigue of Intermix lies in its smartly edited designer collections (Robert Rodriguez, Mason, Zac Posen , DSquared2, Theyskens' Theory). Intermix centers its picks on the most desirable ‘must haves’ for a fashionable woman. With stores in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami and Chicago - Edmonton likely will not be receiving an Intermix soon, but with free shipping on orders over $150, we’re smitten.

Topshop & Topman
From across the pond comes the highly-anticipated Topshop and Topman, a UK-based retail fashion phenomena known for its chic-cheap fashion and collaborations with Kate Moss. The Bay secured exclusive Canadian franchising rights, and announced the Toronto Yorkdale store-within-a-store concept is slated to open this September. For the rest of Canadians? Get ready for some online shopping through and websites. Can’t get enough? We suspect Edmonton will have its own Topshop soon.
