holiday makeup :: The Party Look

It’s amazing what a little color and know-how can do to make your holidays prettier.

To get ready for the season, I booked an appointment with Jen at LUX Beauty Boutique. My makeup ambition was simple: please transform my daytime makeup to a holiday party look.

The appointment started with a consult about my skin type and desired look. Next, products were carefully chosen.  Makeup artist Jen started with the eyes to create an updated smoky eye by layering hues of peaches with rich browns and black eyeliner. Once the eyes were set, she moved to perfecting my skin and adding a touch of color with shimmer blush and bronzer. The lips were sealed with just a hint of color to balance the more dramatic eyes.

Here are tips and techniques for party-ready holiday makeup.

Get Primed: Use a primer the delivers multiple benefits. We used the Stila One Step Correct, a serum that instantly color-corrects, brightens and covers skin imperfections.

Where to Begin: Start with your eyes first. You can then tidy any loose powders around the eyes before creating flawless skin.

Color Theory: Go back to color theory basics when choosing eyeshadow colors to bring out your eyes. Blue-eyed gals use warm browns, rich taupes and soft peaches. Green or hazel eyes will look outstanding with golden browns, deep purples and soft violets. Grey eyes will look stunning in cool browns, purples and charcoals. Brown-eyed gals, you’ll look amazing in almost any color.

Pro Tip: Always layer eye shadow textures. To build depth, use shadows in different finishes such as matte, satin and shimmer.

Winter Bright Glow: The best way to brighten dull winter skin is the strategic placement of blush. Just smile and apply color in a circular motion using a brush to the apples of the your cheeks.
