A Callie Kind of Christmas

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Brown paper packages tied up with strings...

I am a big fan of Christmas! I love the music, the lights, the food, and especially spending more time with friends and family. This year has been especially merry, as the City and Dale team started working on holiday posts in November. (I'm not one to wait until Dec.1 to put up my tree or start listening to Christmas tunes!)

...these are a few of my favorite [Christmas] things.

Tradition: There are many, but going to see The Nutcracker with my mom is definitely at the top. I was only four years old the first time we went, and to her surprise, sat still (stiller than her!) and didn't talk or fidget once. Thus began my love of ballet- I even got to be in the Nutcracker a few times. Also, a glass of champagne at intermission is a tradition within this tradition that I look forward to!

Tune: It's very hard for me to narrow this down, but any of the songs done by Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin, Mary's Boy Child medley by Boney M. and thanks to my dad it wouldn't be Christmas without Elvis Presley!

Treat: the cranberry macaron from Duchess, and any and all gingersnap and gingerbread cookies.

Glass of holiday cheer: Cranberry Champagne. I'm a bubbly lover all year round, so this is a fun twist for the holidays.

Ingredients:

  • frozen cranberry juice (concentrate)- about 1 Tbsp/champagne flute
  • champagne/sparkling wine
  • cranberries, as garnish (sugared optional depending on sweetness of juice and bubbly)
