drink :: Cask & Barrel

The newly opened Cask & Barrel is a modern prairie tavern complete with Alberta landscape-esque décor, a well-stocked bar, and a kitchen humming in the back. This neighbourhood local is the kind of place you’d happily visit alone; it’s welcoming and full of delightful people.

Despite being new, the place feels worn and old (in a good way). All the furniture from bar stools to chandeliers to lounge tables have been lovingly repurposed from other industrial uses. You’ll spot salad bowls acting as light fixtures; wine barrels serving as stools; and a bar fashioned from scrap pieces of wood.

Barkeepers (and owners), Susan Forsey and Wayne Jones, keep glasses full of scotch, handcrafted cocktails and local beers. Beyond a watering hole, the compact menu satisfies comfort food cravings. Try the butter chicken pot pie or Aztec panini stuffed with pulled chipotle bbq pork, pea shoots and roasted corn relish.

Prepare to be a regular at this drinking den.
