beauty :: Fresh Spring Makeup Ideas

Want to freshen up your look for Spring?

We have been waiting all Winter to spend some money on new spring cosmetics so we consulted with a local expert about what to get. Our trustable source: Edmonton-based makeup artist Nicola Gavins.  Nicola is a freelance commercial, fashion and editorial makeup artist whose beautiful work can be found in magazines and on runways around town and abroad. Check out her portfolio here:

Here are two fun, wearable looks she recommends for Spring:

#1: Neon lips and electric tips!
This is one trend you don’t want to over-do.  Stick to easy-to-wear neutrals all over, but combine with one pop of neon color on your eyes, lips, or nails.

Nicola recommends these products to get the look:

  • MAC Viva Glam Nicki (MAC)
  • Joe Fresh Orange Crush Lip Tint (Superstore)
  • American Apparel Neon Nail Lacquer – Neon Coral (American Apparel)
  • Deborah Lippmann – On the Beach (Holt Renfrew)

#2: Gilded/Metallic
Nicola means metallic eyes or cheekbones with a gilded look. She’s seeing a departure from typical yellow gold –choose between coppers, rose gold, peach, terracotta or tawny shades with a metallic edge.

Nicola recommends these products to get the look:

  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal (Mousey Browns)
  • MAC – Cream Color Base in Proper Copper (MAC)
  • Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Nobody’s Baby (Lux Beauty Boutique)
  • Stila Jewel Eyeshadow (Lux Beauty Boutique)
