Edmonton is buzzing with things to do. It always shocks me when someone whines “there is nothing to do in this city.” When I’m curating the weekend guides every Thursday, the challenge is narrowing down all great happenings.
Take this week: On Wednesday, I am attending Start-up University at the newly opened Start-Up Edmonton space in the Mercer Building. Thursday, I am going to a media breakfast for the opening of the brand new Kiehl’s store followed by an afternoon collaborating with 450 entrepreneurs at Accelerate AB.
With so much going on, I wanted to share a few do-not-miss events. (hint: buy tickets now!)
'3' Series is a new initiative where three creative speakers speak for 30 minutes each. It starts on Thursday, May 31 with three brilliant illustrators – Dwight Allott, Amanda Schutz and Jeff Sylvester. There are five events in total.
Held under the big Alberta sky at the Amphitheatre at Hawrelak Park, Pecha Kucha 13 goes live June 6. The theme for the night is local ideas, projects and musings in the 20 slides by 20 seconds format. You’ll be riveted, challenged and probably bored at least one. In draws one of the coolest crowds in Edmonton. Add it to your agenda.
Late Night Refinery
The classiest party in Edmonton; Late Night Refinery parties is one of the only places you can wear that dress that would be absurd anywhere else in this town. The party on June 23 is all about abstract art from bold sculptures to dynamic video projections. It starts late – 9pm and goes all night. You should be there.
Busy Being Fabulous
Fashion, pampering, red carpet photos and a very good cause – The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. I attended Busy Being Fabulous last year and it was a top-notch fundraising event.
