please help :: Traditional, Something Blue or Modern?

As a woman who adores great style, beautiful fabrics, gemstones and shoes, creating a wedding day look has been amazingly fun. Let me rephrase that. At first, it was painful. I had no luck finding the right dress or the right jewels. So, I decided to find amazingly talented people and take an active role in designing process. I loved collaborating with designers and jewelers to create my wedding day look.

Throughout the process, I’ve struggled the most with this question: How traditional should I be?

Initially, I wanted to order my wedding dress in vivid sky blue silk chiffon (it's my best color!). Then, I agonized – would I regret not wearing white on my wedding day? Ultimately, I settled for ivory silk. It happened again with shoes. Do I go boring and traditional? Or, do I choose shoes I love but may seem ridiculous in five years?

It’s happening again with jewels. Do I choose traditional earrings? Or select a beautiful, modern pair more aligned with my current aesthetic? One of my girlfriends suggested merging the traditional ‘something blue’ with a modern design.

Ah, it’s so tricky! And, it’s so hard because my style is always evolving… how do I avoid cringing at my photos later in life?

Any past-brides or bride-to-be have any suggestions for dealing with the traditional vs. modern quandary?
