Lately, I’m loving Instagram! I’ve put a few examples above that show how you can give your photos a different look before you share them with your friends. If you don’t know about it yet, Instagram is a photo sharing application. It’s kind of like a picture-only twitter; you share photos with your followers and your home screen shows the photos that have been shared by those you follow. Add captions and hashtags to your photos (example: #yegfood) so people can see your photos when they’re browsing different subjects. I especially love how you can pull out the detail in wood grain on instagram, like in my teacup photo. If you’d like to follow me, I’m @gillian_thomson.
The top two photos show other things I’m lately loving. One being samosas and iced chai from Remedy (if I knew sooner that two samosas were less than $4, I would have been living on them the whole summer). The other being a book I’m reading – Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. After hearing about it in four different university courses, I finally picked it up and I’m glad I did. It was written in the 1960s and brought the effects of the insecticide DDT on wildlife to light. The whole book talks about how our small actions in one place have a drastic effect on other systems across the globe. The book kick started the environmental movement and is making me a little more considerate of the environment around me.
Enjoy the long weekend!
