eat :: Passion for Pork Restaurant Week

Western Canada produces some of the finest pork in the world – and exports it to other countries where its enjoyed for its high quality and great taste. This week, it’s all about bringing the passion for pork home! From September 10 to 16, plan to get your pork at Edmonton’s yummiest local restaurants serving up dishes featuring locally sourced pork.

Here’s just a sampling of the unique pork dishes popping up on menus at Edmonton restaurants:

  • The Common delivers a feast with pork served three ways (braised shoulder, tempura rillette, sous vide tenderloin), and bacon and rhubarb jelly doughnuts for dessert.
  • Zinc has creatively designed three-courses of pork indulgence. Start with a pork belly in a calvados reduction. Next, enjoy a braised pork cheek with german bread dumplings and lavender jus. Dessert is a bacon beignet with maple syrup mousse and crunchy pork rinds.
  • Moriarty’s is serving a pork chop with wild mushroom bread pudding served with a side of peach chutney.
  • The Marc is getting tasty with housemade chorizo sausage, roast bacon wrapped in pork loin served with an apple fennel puree.
  • Niche dishes up a proscuitto pea soup with bacon popcorn garnish (with vanilla cinnamon foam!) and scallops with wild boar bacon.

Taste Alberta is hosting a Harvest Fare on September 12. In honor, of Passion for Pork Restaurant Week, local celebrity chefs will be serving a roasted pork loin with barley pilaf, acorn squash and green beans.

Should your social calendar be too full to consider another meal out, then delight in the online pork recipes created by local chefs. Create a charcuterie board chef Andrew Cowan of 100 Bar Kitchen, or follow Red Ox Inn chef Sean O’Connor’s directions for a bacon-wrapped pork loin.
