Callingwood Farmers' Market
Wednesday 2-6pm, Sunday 10am-3pm
Corner of 69 Ave and 178 St
This market has been goin' strong since long before farmers' markets became in vogue. This was the first market I experienced growing up. My parents were introduced to it by our late, elderly neighbour who would bring over baked market treats if he was in the Callingwood area on Wednesdays. I revisited it on Sunday, and the memories all came rushing back.
Callingwood Farmers' Market is great because it takes place in the wide covered walkway between retail shops (with overflow into the parking lot) You don't need the sun to be shining to enjoy the market at a leisurely pace. You have all the weekly items you expect from a market (produce, herbs, eggs, etc.), but the charm of the market comes from the loyal, one-of-a-kind vendors with authentic homemade baking, toys, and clothing. My personal favourite: the handmade Barbie clothes table!
Callingwood Farmers' Market keeps a blog with vendor profiles and upcoming events. Yesterday, they had bouncy castles there for the kids. It is open on Wednesdays (2-6pm) and Sundays (10am-3pm).
